These terms apply to every website we build and every care plan we provide. Your quote sets out the specific work, price and dates, and takes priority if the two ever differ.

Who we are

Mortar Digital is the trading name of Paul Dawson, a sole trader, of 3 Rydal Close, Skelton-in-Cleveland, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, TS12 2XY. Email hello@mortar.digital.

Your quote

Every build is quoted at a fixed price before we start. The quote lists what is included: the design, the pages, any features and the dates. Quotes are valid for 14 days. We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add.

Paying for a build

  • Half the build price when you accept the quote. This books your place in our diary.
  • The other half when the site is ready to launch, before it goes live.
  • Invoices are due within 14 days.

If a payment is late

If an invoice is overdue, we will remind you first. If it is still unpaid 14 days after it was due, we may pause work on your site, including care plan changes, until it is paid. For business clients, we may also charge interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

Timings

The dates in your quote assume we have your words, images and feedback when we need them. If something arrives late, we agree new dates with you. We will tell you straight away if anything on our side changes the timetable.

If we are waiting on you

If a build is waiting on something from you, such as words, images, feedback or an approval, for more than 30 days, we will put it on hold and agree new dates when you are ready. If it has been on hold for 90 days, we will invoice for the work done so far at £300 a day, less what you have already paid. Picking it up again after that is quoted afresh.

Changes

If you want something that isn’t in the quote, we will tell you what it costs and how it affects the dates before doing it. Nothing is added to your bill without your agreement.

Cancelling a build

You can cancel at any time. The booking payment covers the time we have reserved and the work done, and is not refundable once design has started. If we have done more work than that covers, we will charge for it at £300 a day and show you the breakdown.

Who owns what

Once the build is paid in full, the site is yours: your content, your images, your domain and your theme. Our own general tools and building blocks stay ours, and you have a permanent licence to use them as part of your site. You are responsible for having the rights to anything you send us to publish.

Showing your site

We only show your site as an example of our work, on this website or anywhere else, with your permission. We will ask before we do, and you can say no or change your mind at any time.

Care plans

  • Paid monthly in advance, from the month the site launches.
  • No minimum term. Cancel with one month’s notice.
  • Includes hosting, tested updates, backups, monitoring and small tweaks of up to 30 minutes each. Anything bigger is quoted first.
  • We may change the monthly price with two months’ notice, and you can cancel instead.

Hosting

We aim to keep your site online at all times and fix problems quickly, but no host can promise unbroken service. Hosting is for your website only, and does not include email.

Leaving

If you move on, we will hand over a full copy of your site: the theme, your content, your images and the database, so whoever looks after it next can carry on.

Liability

We take care over everything we do. If something goes wrong because of our work, our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. We are not liable for lost profits or business. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
