This notice explains what personal information Mortar Digital collects, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are. It covers this website, enquiries and the work we do for clients.
Who we are
Mortar Digital is the trading name of Paul Dawson, a sole trader, of 3 Rydal Close, Skelton-in-Cleveland, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, TS12 2XY. Email hello@mortar.digital. We are the controller for the information described here. If you have a question about your data, email us and we will reply within one working day.
What we collect
- When you send the quote form: your name, email address, business name, what you need, your timescale, your current website and anything else you choose to tell us.
- When you become a client: contact and billing details, the content you send us for your site, and records of the work, invoices and payments.
- When you use this website: your cookie choices, stored as an anonymous record with no IP address or browser details. Optional analytics cookies are only set if you allow them.
- When you visit any site we host: standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, used to keep the service secure and working.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and prepare a quote: because you asked us to, before entering a contract.
- To do the work and look after your site: to carry out our contract with you.
- To keep accounts and tax records: because the law requires it.
- To keep our sites and servers secure: in our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service.
- To understand how this website is used: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We never sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
Only the services we need to run the business, each bound to protect it: our server, database and storage provider, DigitalOcean, and our email provider, Google Workspace. DigitalOcean keeps our data in its London data centre. Both are US companies, so where either handles data outside the UK, they use approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don’t become a project: 12 months, then deleted.
- Client records, invoices and payments: six years after our last invoice, as tax law requires.
- Backups of client sites: 7 days, on a rolling basis.
- Your cookie choice: until it expires or you change it.
Cookies
This site uses necessary cookies to work, and optional cookies only with your permission. The cookie policy lists every cookie and lets you change your choice.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it or ask us to restrict it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
